CONCERT FOR APRIL | Faro [Archive]
Regular Programme

#OAOrquestra

Since the Carnation Revolution, April has been synonymous with regeneration and freedom. From poetry to the plastic arts, no art has been indifferent to what is an indelible milestone in the life of our country and of those who make it up.

The Concert for April aims to exalt, not only the spirit of freedom, but also the creativity that this freedom allowed to the Portuguese arts. Thus, with the contribution of our Community Choir, and with the presence of Viviane, we will listen to some of the most beloved music of the greats - Carlos paredes, Fernando Lopes-Graça, José Mário Branco e Zeca Afonso, with orchestral arrangement by the composer Francisco Tavares.”

ÉLIO LEAL - CONDUCTOR

Élio Leal, born in Bombarral, began his musical studies at the age of eleven.

In 2003, at the age of 17, he started his conducting training and had the opportunity to work with the conductors Jean-Marc Burfin, Jean-Sébastien Béreau, Jo Conjearts, Timothy Reynush, Mark Heron, Johannes Schlaefli and Scott Sandmeier. He also studied choral conducting and operatic repertoire with Enza Ferrari and Giovanni Andreoli. Currently he is the conductor of the West Europe Orchestra - a youth orchestra that he founded -, professor at the Metropolitana Music Conservatory, artistic director of the Orquestra Juvenil Metropolitana and is finishing his master's degree in Orchestra Direction at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa with the thesis "O futuro da Orquestra em Portugal” [The future of the Orchestra in Portugal].

VIVIANE - VOICE

Viviane started her career as singer/songwriter in the 90's as co-founder of the band Entre Aspas which recorded 6 albums through the multinational label BMG.

She collaborated in several projects such as Linha Da Frente in 2001, Camaleão Azul in 2002, Rua Da Saudade in 2009, Uma Mulher Não Chora in 2019 and also Natália É Quando Uma Mulher Quiser in 2023.

Viviane has followed a solo career since 2005 and has 7 albums released: "Amores Imperfeitos" in 2005, "Viviane" in 2007, "As Pequenas Gavetas Do Amor" in 2011, "Dia Novo" in 2014, the Best of "Confidências" in 2016, a tribute CD to the french singer Edith Piaf entitled "Viviane Canta Piaf" released in 2017 and "Quando Tiveres Tempo" in 2022.

Viviane proposes a new music, without frontiers, a music in which one can feel the Anglo-Saxon freedom, the melancholy of Fado, the elegance of Chanson, the Mediterranean breeze, the memory of rural music and the spices of Africa, to which she gives the name of "Mediterranean Fado".

OA COMMUNITY CHOIR

The OCS Community Choir, currently with about 60 elements, all of them lovers of choral singing, volunteers, with the most diverse occupations, residing in the Algarve region and of multiple nationalities, has as its main mission and vocation to interpret the choral and symphonic repertoire, thus giving the Orquestra Clássica do Sul the possibility to programme in its regular season the great works for choir and orchestra.

The Choir held its first rehearsal in February 2019 and since then more and more voices have wanted to join this exciting project. Coordinated and rehearsed by baritone Rui Baeta, the choir carries out its regular weekly vocal practice in order to perform works that will be part of their musical repertoire, such as Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Fauré's Requiem, Brahms' A German Requiem, Rossini's Stabat Mater, Haydn's Nelson Mass, Mozart's Requiem and Bach's Mass in B Minor.
