Synopsis
What unites us means more than what divides us. And in music, is it also like that? That is what we will see in this concert dedicated to Iberian sounds. Portugal and Spain, brother countries, very distinct personalities and temperaments. Unmistakable Fandangos and Passo Dobles.
Programme notes
The second Promenade Concert of this season is exclusively dedicated to the musical expression of Portugal and Spain. The programme of this concert gathers compositions that illustrate the several folkloric expressions of the two countries and recreate in a pictorial form the universe of popular festivals of the Iberian Peninsula. From Portugal we have the tranquillity of the Alentejo plains, the peasants of the Ribatejo marshlands and songs from our childhood, written by the English composer Gilbert Vinter. From Spain, we have the warm nights of the 19th century Seville and the Festa Brava, from Carmen and Escamillo, El Matador, with the magnificent music of the French composer George Bizet.
