NEW YEAR’S CONCERTS | Loulé [Archive]
Regular Programme

The year of 2023 begins with the already traditional New Year's concerts, this time in the form of a tribute to Dance. Because dancing has always been, in human civilisation, a way of celebrating and uniting the community.

In this concert we will set off to discover the various dances of the world, so different among themselves and so fascinating in their variety. There will certainly be room for the most famous waltz of all times, which evokes the presence of the beautiful, blue Danube River, but also for incursions into other latitudes, such as the chorinho or lundu from Brazil, the czárdas of Hungary, the fast dances of Romania, the colourful dance of Spain, the frenzy of the fin-de-siècle of France or the melancholy of a Russian waltz, under the direction and presentation of the conductor Tiago Oliveira.

TIAGO OLIVEIRA – GUEST CONDUCTOR OF THE MONTH

It is with great enthusiasm that the Orchestra invites the young conductor Tiago Oliveira to assure the leadership of the New Year's concerts.

Tiago Oliveira started his musical career at the age of eight at the Sociedade Filarmónica Recreio Alverquense. He then dedicated himself to studying the piano at the Silva Marques Regional Conservatory in Alhandra with Professor Sandra Almeida. Later he entered the Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa where he started his singing studies with the teacher Elsa Cortez, and the piano studies with the teacher Karl Martin Gerhardt, having thus concluded the piano secondary course.

Later on, he graduated in Singing at the Music School of Lisbon (ESML) with the Professors Armando Possante and Sílvia Mateus, as well as in Piano at the University of Évora with Professor Ana Telles Béreau, simultaneously. Later, he completed his master’s degree in Piano at the University of Évora, investigating "Fernando Lopes-Graça's stay in Paris (1937-1939) and respective influence on his piano work" in his thesis, under the guidance of Professor Ana Telles Béreau. But his studies didn't stop here!

Tiago Oliveira, since 2011, dedicated himself to the study of Orchestra Conducting, in Lisbon, with Jean-Sébastien Béreau.

As a guest conductor he conducted: Ensemble Vocal MPMP, Orquestra Sinfonietta (Gaia); Orquestra Clássica do Sul; Orquestra Clássica da Madeira; Orquestra de Câmara da GNR; Orquestra Académica da Universidade de Coimbra; Orquestra Clássica do Centro, Sinfonietta de Ponta Delgada, Orquestra Sem Fronteiras, the Grupo de Música Contemporânea de Lisboa, and was also the conductor of Sociedade Artística Musical Carvalhense and pedagogical coordinator of the Music School.

In 2019 he finished his master’s degree in Music Teaching - Orchestra Direction at Music School of Lisbon, under the guidance of Professor Jean-Marc Burfin.

He was a Piano teacher and Accompanist at Ourearte - Escola de Música e Artes de Ourém.

He is currently an Orchestra teacher at the Music School of the National Conservatory in Lisbon, and since September 2017 he is the conductor and artistic director of the Academic Orchestra of Universidade de Lisboa.
